Corruption threat to national security

The Executive Director of the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Rasheed Draman has bemoaned the spate of corruption in the country saying it remains a threat to the nation’s peace and security.

He is of the view that stiffer punishment for corrupt public officials will eliminate the canker from society.

Dr Draman was speaking at the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC) 2018 Biennial General Meeting in Accra on Saturday, 17 March 2018.

The event was under the theme: “The role of the Parliamentarian in the fight against corruption and in achieving the SDGs in Africa.”

Executive Director of Ghana Integrity Initiative, Linda Ofori Kwafo, on her part demanded for the immediate passage of the Right to Information (RTI) bill as promised by President Nana Akufo-Addo at the 61st Independence celebration.

National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah who delivered an address also chided Parliament for not exercising its accountability role which has led to increasing corruption in the public sector.
