Stop Evictions, Move To Flagstaff House – Gyampo To Akufo-Addo

Stop Evictions, Move To Flagstaff House – Gyampo To Akufo-Addo

A Senior lecturer at the University of Ghana Professor Ransford Gyampo has described as needless the ongoing eviction of traders around the Nima residence of President Akufo-Addo.

The national security has given the traders around the area until Thursday March 15 to vacate the premises or be forcibly moved.

However, the affected traders say the compensation package being given to them – between GHC3000 and GHC10,000 –  is woefully in adequate and want the president to revise the amounts.

Government in a statement Sunday said the President is paying the traders from his personal resources.

“In view of the security implications of the operations of the traders, and artisans, national security proceeded to engage with them, and compensation packages of varied sums were agreed on. President Akufo-Addo has taken the view that the national purse must not be burdened on a matter such as this, and has gone on to pay these compensation from his personal resources”.

Speaking to Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Monday, Professor Gyampo said the president should move to the Flagstaff House to ensure his maximum security.

“The security of the President should be of utmost concern to all of us. Why was the Flagstaff House built? Building a befitting place for all Presidents is a good thing and I think all Presidents should use the place.

“I think it’s a needless waste and a needless compromise of the President’s own security if he chooses to stay in his own house. There is no need for an eviction or compensation at all….the President needs to be at the Flagstaff House. It doesn’t make sense to me if we say there is a Presidential Mansion and no President wants to stay there”.
