Jose Mourinho decides against fourth summer signing: Man Utd will try again in January

Manchester United have splashed out on three players this summer – Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic – in order to strengthen key areas of the squad.

Mourinho is thought to be on the lookout for one more player who can play out wide to provide healthy competition to his current crop of players.

But his pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic has stalled, while Gareth Bale looks set to stay at Real Madrid for another season.

And ESPN claim Mourinho is now prepared to wait until the January transfer window to continue his recruitment.
Mourinho does not want to offload any of his fringe players in order to bring in a fourth arrival.

It is said the Portuguese doesn’t want to upset the harmony of his squad by selling anyone and would rather wait to reassess his options in the winter window.

Chris Smalling, Anthony Martial, Matteo Darmian and Marouane Fellaini have all attracted interest from clubs around Europe but Mourinho is unwilling to sanction their departures, ESPN claim.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one player who could be snapped up on a short-term deal in January following his return from injury.

The Swede was released by the club at the end of last season shortly after he suffered ligament damage.
However, Mourinho has revealed there is a chance the former Paris Saint-Germain forward could return to the fold.

Mourinho said: “We are discussing the possibility of him to stay with us.

“It was very clear from him that what he did last year was not enough for him.

“He wants more football at the highest level so we are having conversations and discussing the possibility of him staying for the second part of the season.”
