Auditor Gen. surcharges 11 persons for malfeasance

The Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has surcharged eleven public officials for allegedly causing financial loss to the state.
At a news conference to announce this decision, Mr. Daniel Domlevo failed to make public the identities of the individuals.
He however said his outfit is committed to ensuring that they are prosecuted successfully.
He said “two weeks ago I issued the first batch of the four certificates and they are gone, and served on the people and that starting from Yesterday [Tuesday August 2, 2017] I am reviewing seven more files and before the close of day today [Wednesday] I will be issuing seven more certificates. My review showed that the work done is good and so we have reached 11.”

Mr. Domelevo’s actions are in fulfillment with an order by the Supreme Court that he should immediately begin the process of surcharging any person found to have misappropriated state funds.
The seven-member panel headed by Sophia Akuffo also ordered that where applicable, criminal action should be taken against accused persons by the Attorney General.
The Supreme Court decision comes after a pressure group, Occupy Ghana, instituted an action against the Auditor General seeking an order of the court to compel them not to only report on financial misappropriations by public officials but to take steps to retrieve all state finances that may have gone into wrong hands.
