NACOB destroys $2m worth of illicit drugs

The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has destroyed over 5 tons of illicit drugs valued at $2 million at the Bundase Military camp in the Greater Accra region on Thursday June 22, 2017 to mark this year’s World Drugs Day.
The drugs were destroyed on the orders of the court and they had been in the custody of NACOB between 2003 and 2016.

Addressing the media after the destruction of the drugs, the Deputy Executive Secretary of NACOB, Michael Addo declared that the destruction marks the final stage in the fight against illicit drugs.
In a related development, the board donated shop items belonging to jailed Ghanaian/Austrian drug queen Nayele Ametefe, to three rehab centres in Ghana Wednesday.
The donation was made after a court ruled that the assets should be confiscated. The presentation was done at the NACOB Headquarters on Wednesday 21st June, 2017.
The beneficiaries are the Addictive Diseases Unit, Drug and Alcohol Free Rehabilitation Centers and House of Saint Francis Rehabilitation center.
