Akua Donkor slams Akufo-Addo over Major Mahama’s GHC500,000 Trust Fund

Eccentric Founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Akua Donkor has lambasted President Akufo Addo for setting up a GHS500,000 Trust Fund for the wife and Children of the murdered Major Mahama.

She’s described the amount as paltry which will do very little for the family.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces and President of the Republic, Nana Akufo Addo on Monday announced the establishment of a Trust Fund in honour of the late Maj. Maxwell Adams Mahama who was lynched by a mob in Denkyira Obuasi, with a seed money of GHS 500,000 to support the widow and children.

The President also announced his personal donation of GHS 50,000 which he described as ‘modest’.

The Board of Trustees of the Trust Fund is to be chaired by the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, with both sides of Parliament ably represented on the board.

Other members include Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior, Seth Acheampong, MP for Mpraeso and the Ranking Member from the Minority side, James Agalga, who’s former Deputy Interior Minister.

The rest are Tumu Kuoro, Richard Babina Kanton Vl and Dr Grace Bediako, former Government Statistician.

But speaking to Kasapa FM‘s Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang Wednesday, Akua Donkor who’s known for courting controversy stated that the President doesn’t deserve any commendation for ensuring the establishment of the fund.

” Money cannot bring back the murdered soldier, GH? 500,000 is no money at all. What will this amount do for two children and a wife?

To me, this amount is pittance, when I was forming my party I spent more than 12 billion old cedis and I have already made this public. President Akufo Addo should not be praised for setting up this fund, he’s done nothing deserving of praise.”
