Manchester United news: Giuseppe Rossi reveals special Sir Alex Ferguson detail

SIR ALEX FERGUSON remembered the EXACT transfer fee Manchester United sold Giuseppe Rossi to Villarreal for in 2007.
Former Italy international Rossi played for Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson from 2004 until 2007.

The United States-born striker only managed five Premier League appearances for United and a single goal – which came against Sunderland in 2005.

The 31-year-old had loan spells at Newcastle and Parma before joining Villarreal for £6.6million July 2007.
“He [Sir Alex] still remembers the transfer fee from when I was sold!” Rossi told Manchester Evening News.
Rossi left Genoa at the end of last season and was invited to train with United by his former team-mate, and United caretaker boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Sir Alex has been recovering from a brain haemorrhage he suffered in May 2018 and has been a regular at United’s training ground and Old Trafford since Solksjaer’s appointment.

“I had breakfast with him at Carrington the other day,” Rossi said about Ferguson.

“We were talking and talking and he still remembers the transfer fee when I got sold.
“Just think about it: It was 11 years ago and in that 11-year span there have been hundreds of transfer fees and he still remembered my transfer fee when I went to Villarreal.

“It’s great to see him in high spirits and great to see him just being about here on the football field.”

Sir Alex has been employed as a consultant for the Red Devils and Solskjaer revealed that the Scot was impressed by a goal Rossi scored in training.

“He scored a fantastic goal in training,” Solskjaer said.

“Gaffer [Ferguson] turns round and says: ‘What about that, son?’
“So it’s a bit to help him to get fit before his next move.

“So if there’s any takers, you should be quick.”

Rossi is pleased to be back at his former club, even more so under the guidance of his old team-mate.

He said: ”You’ve just got to tip your hat off to Solskjaer and his coaching staff that have done just an amazing job.”
