A/R: Two dead in Galamsey pit

Two women are reported dead an illegal mining pit collapsed on them at Aniammoa near Adubeywura in the Ashanti region, Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Mr Kwabene Nsenkyire.

The deceased persons have been identified as Yaa Nyankoa, 25, and Obaa Yaa, 26.

According to the NADMO director, the two met their untimely death on Saturday, 10th November 2018, while prospecting for gold in an unused mining pit when the unfortunate disaster happened.

Their bodies were recovered on Sunday November, 11, 2018 from the pit, after a search team was deployed by NADMO to the area to support the locals.

The recovered bodies have been deposited at the Nyinahini community morgue for reservation.

NADMO is urging residents of Aniammoa among other mining communities to take hold of exploiting for gold in unsafe pits or risk losing their life.
