WR: Three arrested in biggest ‘wee’ bust

The Western Regional Police Command has intercepted what it says is one of the biggest drug bust in the region.

According to the Command, 92 bales of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were intercepted in the region Tuesday.

According to the regional Public Relations Officer of the Police Command, DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, five occupants in a DAF truck attempted to bolt when they were stopped at the Apremudo Barrier for a routine check.

Three of the five occupants were arrested with the help of some civilians and are in police cells assisting with investigations.

Upon interrogation and a further search of the truck they found about 92 bales of dried leaves compressed into tablets hidden under other goods.

They hinted that the truck was moving from Accra to the Nzema area and that it was the driver and another suspect –both are now at large – who packed the dry leaves into the truck.

DSP Olivia Adiku urged police officers at the various barriers to up their game and be more vigilant to help uncover more of such illicit transportation and importation of contraband goods.
