Man Utd news: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic agent reveals why Lazio ace did not move over summer

MANCHESTER UNITED were linked with a summer move for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and the Lazio ace’s agent has now revealed why a switch did not materialise for the midfielder.
Milinkovic-Savic has forged a reputation as one of Serie A’s top talents thanks to his performances under Simone Inzaghi at the Stadio Olimpico.

And during the most recent transfer window he was the subject of plenty of speculation, with a list of clubs tipped to raid Lazio for him.

Manchester United, alongside Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus, were credited with serious interest in the 23-year-old.
And that came as doubts grew over the future of wantaway midfielder Paul Pogba, who is enduring an ongoing feud with Jose Mourinho.
Milinkovic-Savic stayed put though and has since put pen to paper on a new contract keeping him at Lazio until 2023.

The Serbia international’s agent, Mateja Kezman, has now lifted the lid on why he did not seal a summer transfer.

“It was very hot,” Kezman told Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, when asked about Milinkovic-Savic’s summer.

“He played an exceptional season and virtually all the biggest European clubs were interested in him.
“We never pushed for the move because Milinkovic was determined to stay one more year to help supporters, team-mates and the club reach the Champions League goal.

“As an agent, I am happy that there is still a season [at Lazio].”

Kezman added: “There were many voices during this summer, I must say, in spite of myself, that many were completely unfounded.

“I have never seen so much false news published and reported.
“There are people who, in order to appear in the newspapers, are ready to give false information.

“As said Lazio has a project, has a plan, have shown their power by keeping Milinkovic in Rome with the consent of the boy.

“This is why we have known for a long time that he would remain.”

Milinkovic-Savic’s new deal has seen his pay jump to £2.7m (€3m) a year, plus bonuses.
And former Chelsea striker Kezman says he is pleased the contract was agreed.

“We are very happy with this renewal,” Kezman said. “It gives us positive energy.

“The company showed great strength by holding back a player who many clubs in Europe wanted.”

It remains to be seen whether United will renew their supposed interest in Milinkovic-Savic if Pogba quits Old Trafford.
