GES suspends insurance cover for staff

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended the deduction of a premium of GHC10.00 from salaries of its staff effective from the end of June 2018 as an insurance cover for such staff.

According to the GES, the deduction which started in June, generated tension among some section of the staff and it was evident that enough sensitization and education had not taken place as had been anticipated. The deductions have since been suspended to make way for enough sensitization and education of the staff.

A statement signed by the GES Director-General, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa and addressed to the Controller and Accountant General said “we wish to emphasize that the scheme has not been abandoned since there is provision for those who are not interested after the sensitization and education to opt out by giving their notice.

“I wish to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience this development might have caused to your office but we believe sincerely that you will bear with us in our genuine efforts at improving the circumstances of our staff.”””
