Moree clan demands mortal remains of late Amissah-Arthur for befitting burial

The Anana Kojo Yenadze Ebusua of Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District of the Central Region is reported to have requested to have possession of the body of the late Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur for burial in his hometown.

According to a report sighted on 3news.com, a head of the clan, Nana Sagoe Amanfo II, on Monday revealed that they were not going to allow their son to be buried either in Accra or in Cape Coast.

He explained that the living mother of the deceased former vice president and her late husband were from the coastal town but had to settle in Cape Coast, where they had six children consisting of two males and four females.

“I want people to know that [former vice president] Amissah-Arthur is not from Ogua,” he stated in Fante, “but rather from Moree and we want our son brought home for a befitting burial.”

Abusua Panyin Amanfo II insisted that his “son” was from Moree therefore his body had to be laid to rest there.

Reports indicated that the former veep was rushed to the 37 Military hospital after he collapsed at the Air force Gym on Friday, June 29.
He was confirmed dead at the health facility and it has sparked nationwide grief with many people taking to social media to commiserate with the bereaved family.

Many past and present government officials including President AKufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia and former president Mahama have all expressed their shock and grief over the passing of the former veep.

It is very likely that the late former vice president would be given a state burial.



Some entertainers including Sarkodie, Edem, DKB and Joselyn Dumas also took to social media to mourn the passing of Amissah-Arthur.

Before becoming vice president in August 2012, Mr. Amissah-Arthur was Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.
From 1983 to 1986, he served as a special assistant to the Secretary of Finance and Economic Planning, Kwesi Botchwey under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) government.

He also served as the Deputy Secretary for Finance in the PNDC government from February 1986 to March 1993.

From April 1993, he continued as the Deputy Minister for Finance in the under the Fourth Republic’s first government until March 1997.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur was appointed Governor of the Bank of Ghana in October 2009 by then-President Mills.
