Mikel Arteta to Arsenal: William Gallas expresses shock at Gunners decision

MIKEL ARTETA becoming Arsenal manager would be a huge surprise to former Gunners captain William Gallas.
Arteta is the overwhelming favourite to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

The Spaniard held talks with the Gunners this week and reportedly agreed a deal to become boss on Friday.

That is despite Arteta not having any previous managerial experience.

Arteta has spent the last two seasons as a coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola since retiring in 2016.
And Gallas has warned him he will find it difficult to make the transition from a coach to being in charge.

“I’d be surprised,” Gallas told Sky Sports.

“I don’t know him as a manager.

“But yeah I would be surprised because he’s never been in charge as a manager.
“Yeah he was assistant coach with Guardiola but it’s completely different when you are in charge of 24 players. You have to manage 24 players.

“So it’s only Arsenal who are going to decide.”

Arteta made 149 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions between 2011 and 2016, scoring 16 goals.
