‘Nyantakyi has not watched up to 40 league matches in 13 years’ – Afriyie

Former vice president of the Ghana Football Association says GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has not watched up to 40 league matches in the 13 years he has been in power as president.

Afriyie was speaking for the first time after he was fired a week ago.

The Liberty Professionals and Okyeman Planners chief have declared his intentions to contest for the FA presidency in the 2019 elections.

Touting his credentials as a grassroots man who has visited nearly every league center, Afriyie aimed subtle dig at his former boss by suggesting Nyantakyi does not care enough about the league to want to watch games himself.

“It is people like us that move from one venue to one venue. It is the reason why Nyantakyi is so strong. By sacking me, he has thrown away one pillar that supported him.

“By the end of this season, we would have played 6,240 games in 13 years of Nyantakyi’s reign; excluding division one, division two and colts league games.

“In 13 years, Nyantakyi has not watched 40 league matches. If you think I’m lying, ask him how many matches he has watched this season. The league is already in the 10th week.

Asked if this implies Nyantakyi does not know what problems Ghana football is facing, Afriyie retorted; “he knows through us; his lieutenants like me, Owoahene Acheampong and Nana Kwame Dankwa, we go to these league centers and report to him.”

Nyantakyi has said he will not be seeking a 4th term in office but observers believe he might rescind the decision and run against his vice next year.
