eBay is your best bet for finding and selling rare coins which are worth a great deal more than their face value.

Rare coin types include certain 50p coin which have particular designs.

A 2010 Girlguiding 50p coin currently being sold on the platform is a brilliant example of this.

The rare 50p coin is listed at a starting bid of £800 on the auction site.

It is being sold by lisamarie1976uk, who has 100 per cent positive feedback as a seller.
The listing description details the coin as simply “A rare 50p 2010 coin”.

But what is so unique and rare about this particular type of 50p coin?

The official Royal Mint website gives a clue about its origins and scarcity.

The description reads: “Over the last century, the Girl Guides has become part of the national life of Britain.

“Today, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts enjoys a membership of millions throughout the world, helping girls to get the best possible start in life.
In 2010 the Girl Guide movement reached its centenary milestone, a remarkable achievement which was celebrated with a commemorative 50p coin struck by the Royal Mint.

“A few determined girls turned up at the first Boy Scout Rally in 1909 asking for ‘something for the girls’.

“Just months later the Girl Guides was formed. 100 years on, in 2009, and Girlguiding UK was stronger than ever, with over 550,000 members, and there were more than 10 million Guides around the world.

“Guiding has always given girls opportunities they might not have elsewhere.”

Earlier this week, it was revealed a Battle of Britain 50p coin sold for £4,599 on eBay.
This coin has been sold by user “craiphillip-69” for the whopping sum.

They wrote: “Very rare 2015 Battle of Britain 50p coin featuring new queens head design. Very sought after!” [sic]

But just how rare is this piece, which was a circulated version of the coin?

Royal Mint said of the 2015 Battle of Britain 50p: “In the summer of 1940 Britain faced the threat of invasion.

“It would fall to brave young pilots, and their crews, to protect the country’s defences – the Battle of Britain had begun.

“75 years later, we honoured the few with a commemorative 50p, the only official United Kingdom coin to be struck for the anniversary.”
