No song was bigger than ‘One Corner’ in 2017 – Hammer

Music producer Hammer has slammed Charter House, the organisers of Vodafone Ghana Music awards for not awarding Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ Song of the Year’ at the 2018 edition.

Just like many critics and music lovers, Hammer has said that ‘One Corner’s popularity was clear as broad daylight and needed not to have been voted for by the public.

According to a post he made on Facebook, that category should be the preserve of the Board and the Academy.

“How do you vote for the most popular song of the year… Popular means popular period. This should be unanimous by the board and academy… Backed by data from radio stations. u can’t ask to vote for this! That’s how u end up with the wrong song. Cos votes can be bought.. just buy loads of credits get your team to embark on Heavy voting. This means u compromise the legitimacy of the awards just for the coins you’ll make from votes,” he wrote.

“NOT FAIR… No song was bigger than one corner in 2017.. why u dey play with ppls struggle and hustle? The boy chop the thing hands down. Stop playing with ppls hard work and emotions. NOT COOL,” Hammer added.

Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ and some songs from other artistes lost out to Fancy Gadam’s ‘Total Cheat’ in the Song of the Year category at the recently held VGMAs.

Patapaa who is not happy with the award has said he believes the organisers were bribed by Fancy Gadam to win that award.
According to the category definition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, “the Song of the Year is the song nominated SOLELY BY THE PUBLIC and adjudged by Academy, Board and General Public as the most popular song released in the year under review. The song must have enjoyed a lot of patronage and generated the most excitement during the year.”

The Board has 30% voting power, the Academy 30% and the remainder 40% is reserved for the general public.

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2018 was held at the Accra International Conference Centre on 14th April, 2018.
