Amidu “very difficult” man – Alabi

Professor Joshua Alabi, a flagbearer aspirant of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described Special Prosecutor Mr Martin Amidu as a good and “very difficult man” who is the person to occupy his current office.

According to Prof Alabi, every politician who has pocketed state funds must be made to face the law, and, so, welcomed the creation of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and President Nana Akufo-Addo’s appointment of the former Attorney General to man that office.

Prof Alabi, who is not enthused about the tagging of all politicians as corrupt, said: “Those who have stolen money or done something wrong, they should be disciplined and that is why I am happy that Akufo-Addo has set up the Special Prosecutor Office and appointed a very difficult man; it is very good,” he told Adom FM’s Captain Smart in an interview on Monday, 16 April 2018.

“It is not every politician who is a criminal… some may be, some may not be, so, we cannot tag everyone that: ‘you are criminals’; it is not good for this country,” he added.

Mr Amidu commenced work on Monday, 5 March 2018. He was sworn in by the president on Friday, 23 February 2018.

He is expected to lead government’s anti-corruption campaign from his Labone office.

His office will make sure all corruption-related issues in the public sectors, are investigated and perpetrators prosecuted, if need be.
