Play and Learn Foundation touched Lives This Christmas

Giving back to society especially to the underprivileged through academic and Sports gets even better as Play and Learn Foundation (PAL) organized their end of year Christmas Party.

The program dubbed, “Christmas Toy and Gifty Drive” on Saturday 23 December 2017 saw more than 150 kids and teens from Okponglo,La-Bawaleshie, Shaishie among others cheering up for Christmas through fun games.

Speaking to a number of PAL Volunteers during the program,they shared some touching stories about how the community engagement of PAL with underprivileged children has yield positive impact. “we see them everyday, with soo much talent but no help from know where. This same kids are exposed to social vices if one doesn’t engage them at this stage.This Foundation has given this kids a place to belong. An initiative that does not only help them develop their talents but a medium for them to be educated “ Emmanuel mentioned.

There were bouncing castles, soccer, musical chairs, tag of peace among others with maximum participation by the kids and teens. The involvement of the children during the program was phenomenal. Most of the teens that we interacted with were well mannered and trained which was evident of what PAL sort to achieve .

From a humble background and quite looking Kwame was seated among his mates under the white, well decorated canopies with balloons with a touch of Christmas colors.He shared how Play and Learn Foundation (PAL) has inspired him and wished to form a similar foundation when he grows up. Kwame lives with only his grandmother. He shared that,he gets teaching assistance from the leaders and they also buy him books for school. “am always happy when I come here and meet with my friends. I live with my grandmother and am the only person who used to sell ice water. When I came here, the big people took me well and I saw the way the white people were playing with us. I was very happy.They buy books for me and teach me during our lessons“ he mentioned.




The colorful Christmas event drew some volunteers around as they engaged with the children through sports.

Meanwhile, the Founder and Executive Director of Play and Learn Foundation(PAL), Nana Kwesi Ohene started this initiative when he was a Masters Student in the University of Ghana. The initiative PAL is to bring girls and boys together with the passion to play, a drive to lead and a desire to pursue academic and professional excellence.

The initiative commenced in 2013 which targets underprivileged children in the communities. PAL uses football and sports training, academic life support, mentorship programs to touch the lives of these children.
