Manchester United want £22m Arsenal star Mesut Ozil to boost Man City title chase

MANCHESTER UNITED will try to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil next month, with Jose Mourinho unwilling to wait until the summer.
Manchester United have emerged as key players in the transfer battle for Arsenal ace Ozil, with Mourinho keen to add the Germany international to his squad.

Mourinho previously managed Ozil at Real Madrid and the two have remained close in the time since the Portuguese’s departure.

Many expect Manchester United to wait until the summer to sign Ozil, where they can lure him to Old Trafford on a free transfer.

But Spanish website Don Balon say Mourinho wants a deal done next month as he aims to reel in Manchester City at the Premier League summit.

Arsenal are facing a major dilemma next month.

As well as Ozil, question marks also remain over the future of Alexis Sanchez.
City are thought to be ready to try and sign the Chile international in January, despite failing to get a deal done back in the summer.

And that means Arsenal could be about to lose two of their best players midway through an already turbulent campaign.

Don Balon say Mourinho is ready to pay between £17million and £22m in order to land his man.

And, though United would also have to part with finances for a signing fee, it would see them landing one of their rivals’ most important assets.

Meanwhile, speaking at the weekend, Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand claimed Ozil would be a huge hit at Old Trafford.

“Since he signed in the Premier League, he’s had the most assists and the most chances created,” he told BT Sport.
“That tells you the standard of the player he is.

“When he was at Real Madrid, I played against him.

“He was a different player at Real Madrid from what I’ve seen here.

“The pace, he’s deceptively quick, and if you can get that out of him, with that ability… he’s a technician.

“I’d take him at Man United all day. Free transfer? No doubts.”
