‘Zimbabwe Doesn’t Need Bawumia To Fix Economy’

Lawyer for Zimbabwe’s new President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the Southern African country does not require the input of Ghana’s Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to return to the path of growth.

According to Farai Mafunga, the country has many competent economists to fix the state and would not need any external support.

In 2011, now resigned President, Robert Mugabe, requested Dr. Bawumia, then running mate for the New Patriotic Party, to help improve their relationship with foreign financial institutions.

Records suggest efforts by Mr. Bawumia helped to improve the financial outlook of the country which was for 37 years, led by Mr. Mugabe.
Although President Mnangagwa has promised economic growth and jobs, it is unclear what his exact plans will be since he is yet to form a cabinet.

Speaking to Kasapa FM Monday, Counsel for the President said the country will resort to local expertise to fix their challenges.

“Zimbabwe has got competent people to turn things around, I think we need to engage the international community and get some investment into the country. I think the people in the country are very capable of doing a great job. Obviously, any help we can get from elsewhere is welcome but I think we’re good to go and so we don’t need Dr Bawumia’s support now.”
