Chelsea MUST give Fabregas what he wants to deny Manchester United another victory

He’s at it again. Yes, Jose Mourinho has his fingers in more pies down in that London, and this time his busy digits have returned back to Chelsea, and their midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Not content with taking Nemanja Matic from his former employers a few months ago, now he is in the market for another.

That after stroking the ego of Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil. How many midfielders does the Special One need?

Remember, remember, Sunday 5th of November. You guessed it, that’s the next league fixture on the horizon for United and Mourinho this weekend, a matter of days before the news of contractual problems somehow found its way into the sportspages.
And although it’s easy to accuse the Portuguese of playing games to unsettle things ahead of his return to Stamford Bridge this weekend, his fascination with Fabregas is said to be genuine. This one has real thought behind it.

With Michael Carrick’s career almost complete, the 30-year-old has three more years at the top of his game according to the United boss.

But this story is more about Chelsea than United. Quite simply, they cannot afford to let another star slip from their grasp to a rival with their Premier League crown already slipping.

Another fire sale, on the back of the Diego Costa disaster, would be like waving the white flag.

Should Fabregas leave, it’s almost an admission that a shift in power has taken place, that the Blues can no longer keep their players from the clutches of other contenders.

With less than 18 months left on his deal, club and player are said to be at stalemate. Chelsea won’t budge on a one-year extension, while Cesc’s camp want him to finish his career as a 34-year-old in west London.

Cue Mourinho to throw some cats in amongst pigeons. The Spaniard can see out his days in red, instead of blue, and disable a rival in the process.

It will only add fuel to the fire that won’t die down. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is a big fan of the former Arsenal player and has already stressed his desire to tie him down to Bridge deal-makers.

With Chelsea now running as a business, a Matic-size offer in the January transfer window would tempt the penny counters to cash in. United will happily stump it up.

Conte would be certain to see any sale as a slap in the face, his player now at what he believes as coming into his career pinnacle.

Dare the Chelsea hierarchy risk the wrath of the Italian and the fans by letting another star name slip through their fingers?
