Spintex road squatters ordered to vacate

Squatters occupying the shoulders of the tunnel linking East Legon to the Spintex Road have been advised to vacate the area in two weeks in their own interest.
The presence of the trespassers is hindering attempts to speed up the construction of a second subway in the area. Government is working with a contractor to put up a second by-pass between Spintex and East Legon to ease vehicular congestion and complement the first.
Although the first phase is almost done, heavy equipment rental companies and florists have taken over the land set-aside for the second part of the job.

Government ministers on Monday, August 28 toured the area to assess the extent of work done and to advise the squatters to move. Some of the trespassers did not take the caution lightly – challenging the authority of the Ministers to ask them to leave. Deputy Minister Anthony Karbo told Starr News, that the squatters must leave because government cannot afford to let work on the project delay
