NPP MPs want 10 year ban for suspended members

The Majority caucus of Parliament is demanding that members of the New Patriotic Party who are suspended be made to stay away for eight or ten years before they are allowed to rejoin the party.
This was part of several proposals submitted to the NPP at the party’s delegates’ conference in Cape Coast in the Central region over the weekend by the majority caucus.
The majority caucus also wants Articles 6 & 11 of the party’s constitution to be amended to allow parliamentary candidates (PCs) to appoint constituency executives.

Other proposals submitted to the party include – The MP or PC shall also appoint all polling stations executives.
– PC should become the leader of the party in the constituency even when he or she loses the elections.
– That in event the party loses elections, the PC appointed constituency executives should hand over to administrative staff and the Research Officer.
The party is yet to deliberate on the proposals and if agreed to, some party members on suspension will be away from the party for quite a while.
Former Chairman Paul Afoko, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong Sammy Crabbe are some of the notable NPP members on suspension.
The former head of the Volta River Authority, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey is also on suspension for openly criticizing the party.
