Barcelona set to sign Philippe Coutinho after agreeing initial £82m fee with Liverpool

BARCELONA are reportedly set to sign Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho.
Barcelona have been in talks with Liverpool for Coutinho following the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in a £200million deal.

And now ESPN claim Coutinho is set to be announced as Neymar’s replacement.

The Catalan giants are said to have agreed an initial £81.6m fee with Liverpool, which could rise to £108.8m with future bonuses.

Barcelona chief executive Oscar Grau reportedly traveled to Liverpool last night to finalise the negotiations.

ESPN add that Coutinho, 25, informed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp earlier today that he wants to leave for Barcelona this summer.
Former Liverpool captain and boss Graeme Souness recently predicted the Reds would struggle to keep hold of Coutinho.

“I don’t think you can [keep him],” Souness told Sky Sports.

“The chance to play for a team that would suit his style of play, I don’t think he can say no to it, as hard as that is for Liverpool to accept.

“Ultimately if he wants to go he will go, as much as the club won’t want him to.
“He’s on a contract but if the big players want to go these days then they get their own way.”

While Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently admitted he was confident the Brazilian playmaker would remain at Anfield for the upcoming campaign.

“I don’t think he will go. But he will want to go and wear that shirt,” he told Sky Sports. “Who wouldn’t want to go? It’s Barcelona.

“I’m sure whether it’s this summer or next summer Philippe Coutinho will want to wear that shirt and go to Barcelona. There’s nothing wrong with it. That’s football.”
