NDC left an empty warehouse, GHC40m debt at NADMO – Agyeman-Prempeh

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has revealed that it is indebted to its suppliers to the tune of GH¢40 million which is the reason they are unable to swiftly respond to emergencies in recent times.

According to the Director General, Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh, the said amount was what his outfit succeeded from the previous administration with an empty warehouse without a single relief item for emergencies like what is currently happening in the north.

“What I can remember is that I met total debt of GH¢40 million without relief items at NADMO warehouse. Our suppliers are unwilling to give us more items because they have not been paid for over a year now. Whatever was supplied in 2016 has not also been paid for,” he disclosed on Okay FM.

He, however revealed that government has been able to secure some relief items for displaced persons and the vehicles conveying them left Accra on Monday night and is expected in Tamale on Tuesday.

Mr. Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh bemoaned the state of flood victims in Tamale indicating that the situation is not peculiar to that area.

“People in Salaga, Karaga and Yendi have been cut off from other areas. We are currently trying to find ways of ensuring that the relief items get to them. I am going to have a meeting with authorities of airforce to see how they will help us airlift the relief items to them”, he added.
