Jose Mourinho: I did not want West Ham new boy Javier Hernandez back at Man Utd

JOSE MOURINHO admits he did not want West Ham new boy Javier Hernandez back at Manchester United this summer.
West Ham completed the signing of Hernandez yesterday for £16million, with the Mexico international penning a three-year deal at the London Stadium.

Mourinho has also spoken fondly of Hernandez and admitted back in March that Manchester United made a mistake selling him to Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

Hernandez spent five years at the Red Devils, winning two Premier League titles with his 59 goals in 158 appearances.

But Mourinho admits he never considered bringing the 29-year-old back this summer, having prioritised the £75m signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
When asked if Hernandez was ever on his radar, Mourinho said: “No, because he left the club a few years ago.

“I’m not sure if it was his decision or the manager’s but he’s a good player, he’s a player that will always score goals.

“I would always welcome him in my squad because he doesn’t need many minutes on the pitch to score.
“But we move in another direction in a younger player in Lukaku and we have Rashford who can be a striker, so we didn’t feel that need.
“But no doubt from West Ham to get a player of his experience and quality is very good.”

Hernandez was a huge success during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 39 goals in his 76 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.
