Mahama’s appointment a betrayal to PNC- Political Scientist

Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr Alidu Seidu, has described Dr. Edward Mahama’s decision to accept an  Ambassadorial appointment from government as a betrayal to the People’s National Convention (PNC) party.

He told Francis Abban on Morning Starr that it is not a bad thing for Dr. Mahama to serve his country, but that would be a huge betrayal to the PNC that he  led.

“In the past, we know, in cases where there is such an arrangement the political party in power extend the invitation to the other political parties and the party meet as a group and determine who should represent or take up this appointment.

“There have been several appointments like that in the past, in which the PNC took exception to it and even took disciplinary measures against people who accepted those particular appointments,” he said.

According to Dr Seidu, it would have been decent for Dr. Mahama to consult his party members to know their position before accepting the ambassadorial position.

He wondered if Dr Edward Mahama would still be the de facto leader for the PNC or resign the position he commands in the party.
