Maj. Mahama murder: Take 17-yr old suspect to Borstal home – Judge

A District Court in Accra has ordered the police to relocate seventeen-year-old boy Ebenezer Asamoah, one of the suspects believed to have lynched a military officer, Major Maxwell Mahama. According to the court presided over by Ebenezer Kwaku Ansah, until the police is able to establish the that the boy is eighteen, he should be sent to the borstal home during the remand period.




The court also remanded thirty-one others also believed to be part of the crime into police custody. The suspects have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The deceased, Captain Maxwell Mahama, an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, is said to have been on his daily jogging routine on Monday [May 29], when some angry youth of the town attacked him, allegedly on suspicion of being an armed robber.

Meanwhile, twenty-six people also brought to the court today [Wednesday], have been discharged by the court. The discharge followed a request by the prosecution who told the court they were not ready to prosecute them as investigations were still ongoing. The suspects were immediately rearrested by the police after their release.
