Tidal waves: Atta-Akyea visits affected communities

The Minister of Works and Housing Samuel Atta-Akyea paid a visit to the three communities in the Volta region affected by tidal waves in the early hours of Sunday, assuring them of the government’s support.
Close to 300 households in the Blekusu, Gavedzi, Amudzinu and Salakope communities were affected with properties running to several thousands of Cedis destroyed.
The over 1000 victims of the tidal waves which rocked the three coastal communities in the Ketu South municipality have been put up in school buildings.

The victims, sandwiched between the sea and the lagoon, had their homes submerged by the sea water when the high tides broke banks Sunday dawn.
Addressing them, during his visit Monday June 12, 2017 Mr Atta-Akyea expressed his regrets over the unfortunate predicament.
Assuring them of government’s support, he said “Developing the communities along our beaches is highly capital intensive which cannot be funded by government alone.”
He thus called on “foreign partners to see the coastal belt as a lucrative venture where they can direct their resources to.”
