Delta 8 release political – Ackumey

A member of the legal team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chris Ackumey, has criticized the decision by a Kumasi Circuit Court to release the eight members of the Delta Force.
The court presided by Patricia Amposah on May 17, 2017 struck out the case against the eight who raided a court sitting to free 13 of their colleagues standing trial.
Charged with causing disturbances in court, resisting arrest and rescuing persons in lawful custody, they were released for want of evidence after Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Okyere Darko filed a nolle prosequi to discontinue the case.
Angered by the release of the eight, Ackumey observed that their discharge was politically motivated.
He said Friday May 26, 2017 on Morning Starr that: “The issue of the Delta 8 has some political twist to it that is why things are going that way. There is nothing much that the media is going to do in the face of this political issue.

“Nothing much will be done about this Delta 8 case and so I do not see why we are pretending. How can this case be dealt with when the President has given the Delta Force his blessings.”
The government, however, stated that the Attorney General (AG) is not aware of the decision by the prosecutor to discontinue the case and investigation are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances leading to the discontinuation of the case.
But the lawyer for the eight, Mathew Appiah described the government’s position as fallacious. According to him, the AG was fully aware of the discontinuation of the case.
