Adonten crowns 60th Anniversary: Honouring Founding Fathers

 

 

Adonten Senior High School in Aburi over the weekend celebrated its 60^th Anniversary in a magnificent style. The week long program which begun on Monday 15^th May 2017 with a debate competition ended gleefully with a Mega Durbar and Thanksgiving service 20^th and 21^st May 2017 respectively. The event was organised by the School in conjunction with Adonten Old Students Association (ADOSA).

The theme for the celebration, christened “60 YEARS OF HARD WORK: LIVING THE DREAMS OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS” was in honour of the founding fathers: His Hon. Mr. Moses Agyare-Kwabi and His Hon. Mr. Djan Opare-Addo both Rtd. Circuit Judges.

On Saturday 20^th May 2017,the  colourful event which was Chaired by Mr. Kwame Ofori Gyau, Special Guest of Honour Otobour Djan Kwasi Dr. Lucy Asamoah, Head of Ghana National blood bank the Guest speaker, saw remarkable performances by the student’s cadets, melodious songs by the school’s choir and outstanding culture display by the school’s culture troupe.

The  President of Ghana, His Excellence Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo as the Guest of Honour  could not make it despite his acceptance to by his office that he will attend the program. He was engaged in a National assignment out of the country. However, the program went on successfully even though there were no delegation from the office of the President, neither the office of the Ministry of Education. The program saw more than 2000 current and Old Students (ADOSA) at the Durbar.




In recognition of the founding fathers, the Headmaster of the School Mr. Stephen Aboagye, mentioned that, Adonten has undergone remarkable changes after the school was moved from the Old site to the new site at the Aburi-Nsawam road.

The Headmaster, also highlighted some of the projects the school has done over the years. On infrastructure, the school has constructed a fence wall and assembly hall (still under construction). The roads have been tarred with drains. With the school’s academic performance, there has been improvement in the academic performance of the school, high student discipline and creativity which resulted in a student wining 2014 FAWE Science and Technology competition in Africa which was held in Nairobi Kenya, among others. He also appealed to the government and Old Students to support the school. Currently the school needs a bus and also some computers to support teaching and learning. The Old student are also building a lavatory for the boys.

Mr. Stephen Aboagye finally acknowledged the tremendous contribution by the founding fathers. In recognition for the huge mile stone of Adonten Senior High, a monument has been engraved in their honour.

 

The statue of: His Hon. Mr. Moses Agyare-Kwabi and His Hon. Mr. Djan Opare-Addo both Rtd. Circuit Judges and list of honouring members –  which has been engraved in front of the school’s library was unveiled by Nana Awo Adwoa Amene II, Queen Mother of Aburi/Akuapem, Adonten Traditional Area under his Headship Mr. Stephen Aboagye on 17^th May 2017.

Ghana’s renowned actor Mikki Osei Berko popularly known as “Master Richard” was also present to inspire some of the students. Some Adonten Old Students lawyers also had a brief interaction with some of the students at the end of the program, especially those who had the interest in reading law. ADOSA tertiary executives from University of Ghana(UG), Kwame Nkrumah Science and Technology(KNUST), University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Professional Studies(UPSA) and University of Winneba(UEW) were present. They also interacted with the students.

 

According to reports by the Ghana Senior High Schools Annual Digest 2015/2016 performance indicator, Adonten has high WASSCE excellence rate, potential to improve on infrastructure, among others.

Adonten Senior High School, located at Aburi in Akuapem South District,occupies 63-acre land at the apex of the plateau. It was officially founded by the late Mr. Moses Agyare Kwabi in 1957 as a private school until 1^st October, 1963 when it was absorbed by the Ministry of Education. The motto is “Brighten your Conner where you are”
