15 Ghanaian students to take part in Huawei’s ‘Seeds for the Future’ in China

As the leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, Huawei Technologies has launched the 2017 edition of their flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Seeds for the Future in Ghana at a short ceremony at with the Ministry of Communications.
This year’s edition will see 15 top university students travel to China to be trained in Beijing and Shenzhen, the students would be equipped with skills and be shown how they can harness new opportunities.
Every year, Huawei invites students from various countries, to study at the Headquarters where they also learn of future trends in technology. The name of the program represents the company’s desire to nurture promising young professionals in every country where Huawei operates.
Huawei’s Seeds of the Future programme seeks to develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding of, and interest in, the ICT sector, and improve and encourage regional building and participation in the digital community. The programme is designed to nurture young global talent within the Information and Computer Technology (ICT) sector.
Through this program, Huawei collaborates with local governments, higher educational institutes, and other organizations to select top ICT students and offer them an eye-opening opportunity to set foot in China, to experience Chinese culture, to gain more insights of ICT industrial transformation and to witness the showcase of Huawei’s future technologies at the headquarters in Shenzhen.
Ghana joined this initiative in 2015, so far 25 Ghanaian students have so far benefitted from the initiative, with 15 and 10 university students benefiting in 2015 and 2016 respectively. This year, another 15 students from local top universities would participate in the program which will run from May 29 to June 10.




Speaking at the ceremony, the CEO for Huawei Ghana, Mr. Richard Liu Kang said “through the seeds of the future programme, Huawei seeks to collaborate with the Ghanaian Government, Universities and other tertiary institutions and other organizations to select top Ghanaian university students and young professionals from ICT related departments, to offer them opportunities to study and gain work experience and also help them learn more about Chinese culture and gain cross-cultural work experience in a global business environment.”
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications, wished the students well on the educational tour to China to empower themselves with advanced knowledge in lCl’. She said she is encouraged by young people ending up doing things for themselves as it motivates the government to do more for them.
She added that there should be an identification of skills for smart communities and urged the youths to make effective use of the opportunities available to them. She also commended Huawei for the initiative.
In his speech, the Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy to Ghana, Mr. Jiang Zhouteng, reiterated China’s commitment to deepen relationship with Ghana and encouraged the participants to take advantage of the many opportunities China has to offer.
He also applauded the efforts of Huawei and urged other Chinese companies in Ghana to do more to contribute to the development of the country.
Mr. Edward Boateng, Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to China also pledged support to Ghanaian students living in China and urged them to stay focused to make their study worthwhile. He also thanked Huawei for empowering Ghanaian students and urged the company to keep up the good work.
Huawei believes that education is the key to creating opportunities, and is thus dedicated to improving the education environment and allowing more young people to get education opportunities by leveraging the full potential of telecommunication technologies.
The students will also benefit from knowledge of cutting edge technologies such as 4G, 5G, LTE, cloud computing and will be offered opportunities for hands on practice in Huawei’s most advanced labs.
