GSSM students to picket Flagstaff House

Enraged students of the Ghana School of Surveying and Mapping (GSSM) threatened Wednesday to picket at the Flagstaff House if the president Akufo-Addo does not revoke what they described as “unwarranted” closure of the school at the behest of the Lands and Natural Resources Minister.
John Peter Amewu Tuesday ordered the closure following recent clashes there involving the students over land.
The students last week clashed with construction workers on a project said to be an office complex for the Lands Commission, alleging that the land was being developed into a shopping mall.
Infuriated over the development, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister directed immediate closure of the facility and re-assignment of its staff thundering the student must “vacate the premises and the hostel facilities with immediate.”

But commenting on the development Wednesday at a press conference, the leadership of the aggrieved students impressed on the president to intervene to stop the school’s closure.
Failure to, they warned, they would picket the presidency in a bid to register their anger to the directive they said is “pathetic and unfortunate.
“And if the need arises that we need to spend the night, we would do that. The students of Ghana School of Surveying and Mapping are ever ready. As it happened with the nurses, definitely we can do same, we would sleep over there. We want to protect and defend the legacy of Sir Gordon Guggisburg,” SRC president of the GSSM Bright Joseph Nsiah said at the press conference.
