Vandals needs to tell their story – Prof. Philip Ebow Bondzi Simpson

The Official Launch of the Commonwealth Hall coupled with a public lecture on Thursday 23rd April 2017 witnessed an outstanding piece by Prof. Bondzi Simpson the Rector of GIMPA. He took the stage to acknowledged the tremendous contribution Commonwealth Hall has made to the lives of many alumni of the Hall.
 

Speaking on the topic, “Commonwealth Hall: Reflection on Branding and Culture”, he mentioned that, “Vandalism” is often misconstrued with its lexical meaning as violence but it was a tradition to develop the advocacy and self-awareness of students and to serve as a platform for the students to not only pursue academic excellence but to be the voice to the voiceless in society. He added that the brand of Vandals is very huge and aside that, the current student must make sure they live up to the standards.
 
He added that Vandals should tell the story of what the “true Vandalism” is to enable members of the general public to understand fully. He mentioned that Commonwealth Hall has produced many people and are excelling in their area of expertise in Ghana and beyond. He mentioned the Chairman of the day, Dr. Kwame Anoff Akuffo, Director General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is an Old Vandal, Former President H.E John Dramani Mahama, and many more. He further acknowledged that there are so many Old Vandals in every sector of the economy from Academia to Business, Lawyers, Judges, Engineers, Medical Doctors, Politicians, Philanthropist, Old Vandal in the Media, and many more.




 

Prof. Bondzi Simpson used that platform to advised that young Vandals to be discipline, and not indulge in art of violence and develop their talent. He added that from school, most of the students would be entering in real world of work and what values one learnt while in Commonwealth Hall would prevail. He cautioned the students to respect the Hall authorities.
 

Meanwhile, the next 2nd public lecture would be on 27th April, to be handled by Hon. Ekow Spio-Gabrah former Minister of Trade and Industry at Commonwealth Hall 6pm and on 11th May 2017, Anas Aremeyaw Anas will be handling the 3rd Public lecture.

The theme for the 60years Anniversary is “60 Years of Vandalism: The Next Chapter”.
